When Marcel was a child, he spent his summer vacation in the hills of Provence with his family. In this scenic place, Marcel and his buddy Li Li spent an unforgettable time. However, back in his daily life, Marcel had to prepare for the boring review in order to take the scholarship exam on behalf of the school, and the recollection of his carefree life in the mountains became his only pleasure. Surprisingly, under the coordination of his mother's constant planning, the Marcel family expanded from every holiday to a weekend vacation in the mountains of Provence, and Marshall had more adventures and stories in the countryside. But the walk of more than four hours a week was too much for the whole family, when they met Marcel's father, a student who was a canal supervisor, and he took advantage of his position to give Marcel's family a key to walk along the canal, shortening their journey to an hour. Although this way provides convenience for the family, it makes the self-respecting father live a life of self-remorse and courage. The film is adapted from Marcel Paniol's biographical novel of the same name, "Mother's Castle", as a sister piece of "Father's Glory".
