This film tells the historical story of King Ludwig II of Bavaria, from his coronation in 1864 to his death in 1886, adding a solemn and gray romance to Bavaria. In addition to some eccentricities, the king is famous for other things: he sold Bavaria to Germany; he built a large number of amazing castles across the country (the most famous is Neuschwanstein Castle); he was the main patron of Richard Wagner, but he was mercilessly abandoned by him; and fell in love with his cousin, Princess Elisabeth of Austria. In the end, Ludwig II foresaw his tragic death, and his body was found in Lake Steinberg, but the cause of death remains unknown.
