In 1943, the Japanese people suffered from war. In an air raid refuge, Tashima Saburo and Ono Feiko met, so the two pure hearts were closely linked together. Saburo's father is a ruthless judge, his mother has long passed away, his eldest brother Ichiro died, and his pregnant sister-in-law is living trembling at home. The second brother and third brother is a lieutenant in the army. Firefly lives with her mother. She is a student of an art school. Her mother works in a factory to support her family. She often goes to the streets to paint portraits of people. Although she is poor, she is very happy. Since he met Yoshiko, Saburo has been intoxicated with the feeling of happiness all day. Soon, however, Saburo received a notice to enlist in the army, in order to wait for Saburo, Firefly did not escape in time in the air raid, resulting in being shot and killed. Saburo did not know that Firefly was dead. He boarded the military train with fond memories of Firefly and the belief of reunion after the war. When the war was over, Saburo died in a foreign land, and only letters came back to Japan, accompanied by the portrait that Firefly painted for him.
