Italian painter Modigliani (Andy Garcia Andy Garcia) struggles with the great artist Pablo Picasso in his short life. The only painting that defeats Picasso in his lifetime depicts the woman he loves deeply. The unruly Modigliani lives a dissolute life of alcohol, marijuana and women in the circle of painters in the Montmartre Heights of Paris. In a sketching class, he meets the beloved Jenny of his life (Elsa Zeberstein Elsa Zylberstein). He invites her to be his model and creates a large number of portraits for Jenny. But in a painting that was going to compete with Picasso in an exhibition, he left Jenny's eyes unpainted. He explained to Jenny: when I know the depths of your heart, I will draw your eyes. He got a steady stream of inspiration from Jenny, which made him continue to have a strong creative passion. However, his art can not be recognized by the public like Picasso, and his bad living habits have infected him with tuberculosis, which is difficult to cure. Just as he was getting his marriage registration certificate with Jenny, he was hit by a robber and died in the street. The exhibition opened and all the audience were painted.
