In New York City in 1953, Bill (Peter Weller), the exterminator, was writing alone, and only two friends were aware of his literary attempts. Bill's wife Joan (Judy Davis) is addicted to injecting insecticidal powder. Bill visits Banwei, a drug doctor, and is soon subpoenaed by the Narcotics Administration, where he encounters a talking bug, which points out that Bill's true identity is a spy. Bill flees home in a panic, shoots his wife by mistake, and has to take refuge in the "zone" of the Middle East according to the guidance of strange creatures. The local black meat farmer, American writer and his wife, gay businessman, and women in the bazaar all seem to be part of a conspiracy. Bill works with the help of his talking typewriter, Clarknova, and gets closer to the truth of the plot. after losing Joan again, Bill finds contact with Dr. Benway. The film won the 1993 London Film Festival Actress of the year Award, 1992 Canada Gini Award for Best Director, Best Photography and other awards. Based on William Robles' novel of the same name.
