In Tehran, journalist Farazmand went to report on the arrest of young Jos é Sabuzian for fraud. It turned out that Sabzian, an unemployed painter, was a movie fan. he claimed to be the famous director Muhsin Marc Malbaf and won the trust of the wealthy Ahankach family and borrowed money from them to make films. After the incident, Sabzian was arrested. Director Abbas Kiarostami launched a documentary-like follow-up investigation into the case, interviewing the police, the Ahankah family, and Sabzian himself. During the trial, Sabzian regretted cheating the feelings of the Ahankah family, but he said he did so because of his love of art, and if he had the money, he would have made his own film. Moreover, pretending to be the director Mark Malbaf gave him confidence. In the end, the plaintiff Ahankah's family dropped the charge, and Sabzian met the real Mark Malbaf, who took the young man back to Ahankah on a scooter.
