Based on the Scottish writer Alasdair Gray's novel of the same name, the film combines realism, fantasy and science fiction elements, reshaping Frankenstein's story, set in the late Victorian era, Bella (Emma Stone Emma Stone), a woman who escapes her husband's abuse but dies. After being successfully resurrected by scientists, her mind stays in childhood, but she is also full of longing for the unknown world. She eloped with a dissolute lawyer and embarked on the adventure of self-discovery, trying to get rid of the prejudice against women of the times and pursue equality and sexual liberation.
