In 1948, on the eve of the liberation of Chongqing, the Kuomintang, which knew that there were not many good days, began to carry out crazy massacres of Communists and progressives. After her husband was killed, Sister Jiang (Yu Lan) packed up her mind and went to the Huaying Mountains to participate in the rural armed revolution. Due to the betrayal of traitor Fu Zhigao, she and Xu Yunfeng (Zhao Dan), leader of the Chongqing underground party organization, were arrested and imprisoned in Zhizidong concentration camp. The Kuomintang successively coerced, lured, and tortured Xu Yunfeng and Sister Jiang in an attempt to get clues about underground parties from them, but failed. While being physically tortured, Xu Yunfeng and Sister Jiang became more and more frustrated mentally. They led their prisoner friend Xiao Luotoutou (Fang Shu) and others to fight against the Kuomintang again and again. In April 1949, the People's Liberation Army crossed the Yangtze River and Chongqing was about to be liberated. Xu Yunfeng, Jiang Jie and others contacted outside party organizations through Hua Ziliang, secretary of the Huaying Mountain District Party Committee, who had been pretending to be crazy in the concentration camp for more than 10 years, and began planning prison escape operations.
