The film describes a true crime story. Sarah Pender (Jenna Dewan Tatum) is a young, smart and beautiful woman, but her heart is extremely dark. She was abandoned by her mother at the age of three and vowed to live like a person and make her respected by the world. In order to afford the high college tuition, she and her boyfriend Rick Hull decided to sell drugs at home. There was a serious problem with one of the deals, resulting in the shooting of two of Sarah's roommates. When the police investigated her, she claimed that she was not at the scene at the time of the crime. Despite all her sophistry, she was sentenced to 110 years in prison for orchestrating the double murder with her boyfriend Rick. Sarah did well in prison and used his spare time to teach himself the law, hoping to reverse the case on appeal. She also actively helped other prisoners to appeal and was regarded as a "prison model" by her inmates. However, Sarah's appeal was rejected again and again, leaving her in despair, and she began to plan her escape from prison.
