This film is one of the religious trilogy written by Luis Bunuer, a master of Spanish surrealist films. Ascetic Simon (Claudio Brooke Claudio Brook), in order to get close to God, comes to the sparsely populated desert and, despite the begging of his mother (Hortensia Santove ñ a), stands at the top of the pillar and prays for atonement day and night. The local people thanked Simon for his piety and specially built a higher pillar for him. Many people heard about Simon's miracle and traveled thousands of miles to ask him for help. A farmer (Enrique del Castillo) whose hands were amputated witnessed a miracle and his hands were reborn. The devil (Binar Sylvia Silvia Pinal) seduces Simon, insults him, wrongs him, and even takes him to a big city full of sins to test his will. The film was nominated for the Golden Lion Award at the Venice Film Festival in 1965 and won the jury Award and the International Film critic Fessippi Award.
