In Japan at the beginning of the 20th century, Daisuke Nagai, who graduated from Imperial University in Tokyo, was well-off and did not worry about money at all. He travels around all day and leads a leisurely life as a loafer. In contrast, Changjiro Hiraoka (Kaoru Kobayashi), a good friend of Nagai for many years, is short of money. His wife 3000 generations (Miyoko Fujiya) suffers from heart disease during pregnancy, and his unborn child is even more unfortunate to die. Hiraoka, who is under great pressure, breaks down and lingers at the fireworks site. With the increasing urgency of livelihood, the relationship between husband and wife exists in name only. Three thousand generations is the sister of Nagai and Hiraoka University's late friend Kanuma (Fengjian Dufu). Over the years, the unmarried Nagai still has a deep admiration for the three thousand generations, and he sympathizes with each other's plight, but because of moral bondage, fiery emotions can only be locked in the bottom of my heart. There is no chance to love deeply, where to put a hundred thousand hearts on hold. This film is based on Natsume Shushi's original work of the same name.
