Stammheim - The Baader-Meinhof Gang on Trial

Stammheim - The Baader-Meinhof Gang on Trial 7.0

The 1986 Golden Bear winner Stamheim is one of the most contentious award-winning films in the history of the Berlin Film Festival. Genna Lolo Brigida, then chairman of the jury, Italian actress and photographer, publicly announced at the awards ceremony that he disagreed with the jury's decision and used the word "disgusting" to describe the film. In this film, director Haofu uses a dramatic but neutral approach to show the trials of the first generation of Red Army Brigade (RAF) leaders in the Federal Republic of Germany from 1975 to 1977, using a lot of real dialogue in court records and mixed with virtual plots. The four defendants in the film, Bud, Meinhoff, Enslin, and Rasp, were all held in Stamheim Prison on the outskirts of Stuttgart. Together with defence lawyers, they questioned the impartiality of court trials and defended their terrorist acts. The big and small disturbances in the trial are reflected in the film. In the middle of the trial, Maynhoff hanged himself in his cell. In the famous German Autumn incident in 1977, the remaining three defendants also died in their cells on the same night.
