In 1965, the Indonesian government was overthrown by the junta, and those who opposed the military dictatorship were identified as "communists" and suffered bloody massacres. within a year, more than 1 million "communists" were killed. these include farmers and some local Chinese. Anwar Congo, the protagonist of the film, who took part in the massacre with his friends, is now a veteran of Pemuda Pancasila, Indonesia's largest paramilitary organization. Anwar and his friends accepted the director's invitation to recreate in front of the camera how they executed the "Communists." they recreated the scene by making a film, and once again picked up the blood-stained wire used to strangle people. Anwar tells his story, which includes his love of American gangster movies when he was young, and his paramilitary organization, Pemuda Pancasila, which is a force for national security, is also regarded as the largest gangster in Indonesia.
