In the Shimonoseki peninsula's big fishing port, fisherman Fangjiro Obin (Ogata fist) raised his daughter alone, and his daughter Luzi (Xia Mu Yako) fell in love with Junichi (Sato Hiroshi), a young man who works in a coffee shop. In order to win the favor of Fangjiro, Junyi decided to follow him to learn to fish. After several days of waiting, the two finally encountered a school of tuna. Fangjiro only focused on fishing, Junyi was inadvertently entangled in the fishing line and nearly died. After being discharged from the hospital, Junyi and his wife moved back to live in the city, and Funjiro was finally alone. A year later, Junichi and Luzi returned to the fishing village. One night Jun went out to sea and did not return, and the radio was cut off. Fangjiro went out to sea and found Junichi struggling with a big fish, exhausted and dying. The film is adapted from the award-winning novel Akira Yoshimura of the same name, and the Japanese Film Daily ranked 33rd among the top 100 films in the 1980s.
