The film tells the story of a couple who took place on the western border of the United States in the 1860s. Vivian Le Cudy is a very independent woman who has a relationship with Danish immigrant Holger Olsen. After meeting Olson in San Francisco, she agreed to go with him to his home near Elk Flatz, Nevada, where she began living together. After the Civil War broke out, Olsen decided to fight for the Union Army, and the two separated. This forced Vivian to live alone, facing the control of corrupt mayor Rudolf Schiller and his unscrupulous business partner, powerful rancher Alfred Jeffries. Moreover, Alfred's son Weston was irritable and unruly. He pursued Vivian, and Vivian resolutely resisted his pursuit. After the war, Olsen returns, and he and Vivian must face and accept each other as they have become.
