A black Carlin in a prison van and a white Jackson were chained together. In the process of escape, although white Jackson looked down on blacks and made it difficult for Carlin everywhere, Carlin ignored past grievances to help his partner escape and regained his lost moral character and love for others. This is an excellent work against racial discrimination, won the Best Photography Award and the Best Creative Screenplay Award in the 31st (1958) Academy Award, and won the Actor Award at the 8th West Berlin International Film Festival in 1958.
