This film is adapted from the short story Blue Cross, which was first published by British writer and literary critic G K Chesterton in 1910. He is best known for the priest detective image of Father Brown. This film is starring Alec Guinness, who is known as "a thousand faces in the film world". In addition to working with epic master David Lynn, such as "Bridge over the River Gui", "Doctor Zhivag" and "Great expectations", the film may be better known to the general public as the classic role of old Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars series in his later years. He and Joan Greenwood, the heroine of the film, also starred in Robert Hammer's better-known film, the Heart of humanity and the Crown.
