Beatrice Hans Dover is a widow who lives in a bungalow on the outskirts of Connecticut with two daughters. She always reads the advertisements in the newspaper all day, full of vague hope for her future, swearing at the government and society, and she unwittingly passed on her world cynicism to her eldest daughter Ruth. Matida, the youngest daughter, was criticized by her mother because she was disappointed with the environment at home and turned her attention to the schoolwork of the school. With a series of small events happening one after another, Beatrice and her two daughters have also encountered unexpected changes one after another.
