American veteran Joe (Richard Beshart) comes to England to persuade his wife Mary (Joan Collins) to go home. Mary's mother has been pretending to be ill to prevent her daughter and her husband from going home. Joe, who has no job, is forced to sit back and end up penniless in England. Boxer Mike (Stanley Baker) plans to retire from boxing to find an ordinary job and live an ordinary life, but a series of unexpected blows make him unable to get what he wants. Air Force Eddie (John Ireland) and his wife Danes (Gloria Graham) have a lot of conflicts.
