The first World War was in full swing, and all French men were drafted into the army, leaving women and children to guard their homes. The mother of the family manor invited Fassani, an orphan, to help with farming, and she was loved by everyone for her diligence and ability. However, when the men returned from the battlefield one after another, all kinds of resentment and love followed, bringing a dark surge to the peace of the manor, and Fassani was driven out of the manor. Xavier Bois, who won the Cannes jury Award for "between Man and God" (2010), depicts the French countryside with a poetic lens, reminiscent of Terrence Malik's "Day of Heaven" (1978). The last scene is like a tribute to Kubrick's World War II classic Road of Glory (1957).
