Ben Marco (Denzel Washington Denzel Washington), who has won many honors and medals, was a Marine Captain. During the first Gulf War, his unit was ambushed during a night search mission. With the wit and boldness of his comrade Sergeant Raymond Shaw (Liv Sleba Liev Schreiber), the whole team finally survived, and the unconscious Ben survived thanks to Raymond. Ten years later, Ben talked about the past on numerous occasions and praised Raymond's boldness. Thanks to his outstanding performance during the war, Raymond has a bright career, and with the help of Senate mother Irina (Meryl Streep Meryl Streep), he is now a candidate for vice president. At this point, however, Ben was anxious, constantly questioning what happened that year, as if there was another unknown version of that night's attack. The film is based on the 1962 John Frank Hammer Sutra of the same name.
