Just after the school holiday in June 1941, five young men from a Ukrainian village traveled on foot to Kiev when they were bombed and strafed by German planes and the village was occupied. Most of the men fled to the hills to join the guerrillas. While dealing with the Germans in villages and towns, the young men risked their lives to provide weapons and ammunition to the guerrillas.
