The story takes place in the near future, artificial intelligence is all the rage and naturally develops into a distant memory. New York couple Rachel and Arvi are preparing to take their relationship to the next level and start a family. Rachel's work gives them the opportunity to use a new tool developed by tech giant Pegasus through a detachable artificial uterus, or "egg chamber", to give couples the opportunity to share pregnancy on a more equal basis. Arvi, a botanist and devout purist, was skeptical of this approach, but his love for Rachel prompted her to give it a shot, and the two embarked on a crazy journey of parenthood in this brave new world.
