Didi Allen (Meryl Streep, a three-time Oscar winner) and Barry Glickman (Tony winner James Colden) are stage stars in New York. They are facing a crisis: their careers have plummeted because of the lack of interest in the costly new Broadway show. Meanwhile, in a small town in Indiana, high school student Emma Nolan (new actress Joe Allen Perlman) is facing a sad thing: despite the support of the high school principal (Kogan-Michael Kay), the head of the parent-teacher meeting (Kelly Washington) forbade her and her girlfriend Eliza (Ariana de Bos) from attending the prom.
