The story takes place in rural France in the 16th century. Martin (Bernard Piari Bernard-Pierre Donnadieu) is a man who does nothing all day. One day, he suddenly abandons his wife Bertrand (Natalie Bey Nathalie Baye) and two lovely children, and his whereabouts is unknown. Seven years later, Martin has not appeared, nor has Bertrand received any news of his death. One day, like his sudden disappearance, Martin showed up again. Martin told Bertrand that he had been helping the French king to march north and south over the years, and to Bertrand's surprise, Martin behaved as if he were a different person, gentle and industrious. Although everyone in the village thought the Martin was a fake, Bertrand firmly believed that this was her husband who disappeared seven years ago.
