Abel went to investigate the death of a boy in a local 'upscale' school whose body was found on the river. Senior officials at the school feared that it would lead to a scandal, insisting that it was just an ordinary suicide. But Abel learned from the boy's girlfriend that he was often bullied, and Abel suspected that a dangerous student's initiation ceremony had been screwed up, so he secretly asked Betsy, a compassionate teacher, for help. But Abel's boss warned him not to investigate because the school sponsored a lot of police charity funds. Abel can't stop there, not only because his brother committed suicide a few years ago, but also because the boy's ghost seems to have left them a clue as to what happened that night.
