The story takes place in the rural areas of northern Sweden in the mid-19th century. Ursa and his son were rich men who lent money to the poor. When they were unable to repay their debts, they used the woman of the creditor as a tool of desire. The widow and her daughters were thus ravaged by the rich father and son, but they did not lose their personality. The arrival of Jacob, a carpenter, brings joy to the family and earns money to pay interest for them, so that he does not have to use it as a tool to discharge desire, but he cannot escape the tragic fate of "missing, being driven mad and disappearing into the smoky chimney". In the end, Di's family and the rich man were all buried under the earth and rock of the landslide.
