Based on the novel of the same name: the story of a Dehavelan vampire pilot returning home on Christmas Eve 1957, his plane encountered a complete electrical failure on its way from RAF Sailor in northern Germany to Lakenhais in Suffolk. Lost in the fog and out of fuel, he was received (or escorted) to an abandoned RAF dispersal by the pilot of a World War II DeHavilland mosquito bomber, who was apparently sent to guide him. He tried to find a reasonable explanation for his eventual rescue, which was as troublesome as his experience. However, shortly after he landed at the airport, the fictional RAF Minton, he learned that his savior was Johnny Cavanagh, a wartime RAF pilot who had been stationed in Minton and had guided crippled bombers home. Vampire pilots also learned that Cavanagh disappeared over the North Sea on Christmas Eve 1943, exactly 14 years ago.
