Isabel (Isabel Ajani Isabelle Adjani) grows up in a broken family, while her mother Helena (Anne Giraldo Annie Girardot) leaves her grumpy father Jean (Lino Ventura Lino Ventura) and elopes with her lover. All these years, Isabel has been living a life of mutual dependence with her father. Although she met a woman named Madeleine (Nicole Curse Nicole Courcel) after that, their relationship didn't come to the end. In a twinkling of an eye, Isabel is 16 years old and has a very close boyfriend Mark (played by Francis Perrin Francis Perrin). Isabel has always wanted to move in with her boyfriend out of her repressed native family, but her decision was strongly opposed by her father. In accordance with her father's wishes, Isabel took the medical exam, but the result was terrible, and the failure made Isabel decide to do something she really liked.
