Braji plays the son of anti-fascist national hero Athos Mannani, who returns to his hometown to attend the mayor's plaque ceremony 30 years after his father was assassinated. He learns from the mouth of his father's mistress that the murderer of his father is a local and is determined to find out the truth. His father's three friends told little Athos about his father's deeds, while his father's old enemy, Beckasha, tried to drive him away. Finally, little Athos broke through the fog and found that his father was a secret fascist spy. After seeing through his betrayal, the public unexpectedly used the best of both worlds to kill his father and protect the reputation of the resistance. In the end, the son did not reveal the truth and succumbed to the appearance of being deceived. One of Bertolucci's masterpieces shot in his hometown in Italy shows a strong personal style, especially his doubts about his parents' culture, but also takes into account the attractiveness of the plot. Bertolucci tries to sharply criticize the ambiguous moral values of the fascist society in the 1930s with the combination and deviation of the two representations of son and father.
