David (Nicholas Cage) is a weather forecaster, but he has no expertise to use at work. When the weather forecast is not ideal, the audience will throw rubbish at him in the street. David feels dark about his life, and divorce from his wife (Hope Davis) is even more of a blow to him. Now he has a chance to go back to work in New York, but he has to face a difficult relationship with his children. Son Mike was sexually harassed by a counselor he knew when he was in rehab; daughter Shirley was ridiculed and melancholy by her classmates at school. What makes David even more sad is that his novelist father Robert (Michael Kane) is terminally ill. David wants his father to see his success. He wants to get back together with his ex-wife and start a new life in New York. No matter how hard he tried, his relationship with his family did not ease. He was still attacked by rubbish from the audience, and he began to resist going to New York. At this time, he saw his father's calm attitude towards death, and in his last days with his father, David was given a lot of lessons in life.
