In a cold and snowy winter, the old writer (Kobayashi Kobayashi) affectionately wrote his yearning for his mother and memories of the old days on paper: when I was 8 years old, the family is still quite rich, and the unsmiling father (Tsaijin Ichiro) is in charge of everything in the family himself. "I" and my brothers and sisters, under the leadership of their mother (Otowa Nobuko), help their father with the housework. But even so, the family is inevitably in decline. In order to stick to the mountains and fields left by his ancestors, my father tried his best to support himself, and even sacrificed the happiness of the eldest sister. However, all the efforts are in vain, and the downfall of the family is inevitable. Just a young and ignorant "me", I would lose my temper with my mother because I couldn't get my beloved toy. I didn't sympathize with her cash-strapped family and her tired heart, which worked day and night.
