In the third year of Showa (1928), Kyuko Oishi (Takamine Hidako) taught at the branch of Xiao Doudao Primary School. Teacher Oishi, who rides a new bike and wears a suit, has brought a fresh breath to the impoverished village, and the 12 students in the campus also like her. One day the boulder fell into the hole dug by the children and sprained his ankle. During the rest and recuperation period, 12 children walked eight miles to see the teacher. Dashi returned to teach at the head school because of his injury, which coincided with the prevalence of militarism. Dashi's skepticism was despised by his colleagues. As the war progressed, some of the 12 children who had been transferred to the head school joined the army. Dashi's doubts about the military education deepened, so he finally chose to resign and go home to his husband and teach his son. After the war, Mr. Dashi returned to the campus, looked at the strange and innocent faces in the classroom, remembered the different experiences of the 12 children that year, and finally burst into tears.
