The story takes place on the eve of the end of the communist regime in Poland in the late 1980s, and the protagonist is Janusz, a middle-aged film censor. But one day everything changed. A film "Sunrise" was showing in a cinema called "Freedom" on the next street, when suddenly the characters on the screen began to revolt, giving no pre-censored dialogue, but acting as they wanted. This caused an uproar that the audience had never seen such a strange thing, and a perfectly normal warm love film turned into a comedy mocking political reality. But they soon realized that the people in the play had said something they had been depressed for a long time but dared not say, so people began to cheer, and every day more and more people flocked to the free cinema from all directions to watch this magical film. Janusz tried to control the chaos, but it was only after communicating with people on the screen that he realized that these fictional characters were actually thoughtful. But a senior official sent by the government to investigate has taken over the matter, and a fellow film critic suddenly remembered that it was very similar to the plot in "the Purple Rose of Cairo", so everyone went to watch Woody Allen's film, hoping to find a solution, but did not expect anything weirder.
