Collinitley produced, directed and adapted the film. Bates' short story "lovely Farm" (The Little Farm). The novel tells the love story of a middle-aged man in the mid-1950s. Rolf Lassgard, a 40-year-old bachelor, has lived alone on his farm in western Sweden since his mother died nine years ago. His only friend is a 27-year-old sailor named Eric (Johan Widerberg). Eric always likes to talk about his erotic history in front of Olev and bully Olev's leniency and honesty. Olev advertises for a housekeeper in the newspaper, and a charming middle-aged woman Ellen (Helena Bergstrom) is recruited. Both Orev and Eric fell in love with Ellen, but Ellen fell in love with Olev and did not trust Eric. Eric is determined to find out exactly why Ellen came to this failed farm in this remote land. The film under the Sun is famous for the superb acting skills of the three leading actors and the classic photography of Jens Fischer. The heroine Helena Berestrm.
