Content Abstract: in the mid-19th century, a young couple, Christina and Carl Oscar, lived in a small rural community in Smaland, southern Sweden. They scraped by on a small piece of barren land. Things are difficult, people encounter bad weather, the harvest is plummeting, and it is bleak. The couple's first child died of hunger and stealing food. The famine, coupled with the death of the child, made the mother accept his father's decision to emigrate to the United States. They went together with another family fleeing religious persecution and a man who ran away from his evil wife. The rest of the film describes their difficult journey in a swaying ship, crossing the Atlantic and inland to what is now Minnesota. The entire migration took 10 weeks. In Minnesota, immigrants who narrowly escaped death will start their new lives in this new world. This film is an epic film about Nordic immigrants to the United States. The film is full of long shots and spectacular scenes of nature. The shadow of this film can be seen in Pearl the Conqueror. Starring Max Foncido and Liv Uman, she was nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Award.
