The film is based on the novel "The Widow Clicquot: The Story of a Champagne Empire and the Woman Who Ruled It" by Tilar J. Mazzeo. It tells the story of the tough early fortune of the French Château in the 19th century and vividly presents the charming young woman behind this iconic orange brand. Clicot Champagne was founded in 1772 by businessman Philippe Criceau. After his son François Criceau married Barbie Nicole Ponsardine, daughter of business tycoon Nicolas Ponsardine, the couple gradually took over the winery and developed the champagne business together. Seven years later, François died suddenly of typhoid fever at the age of 30. A shocked Philip planned to liquidate the company. Barbie, 27, decided to take over her husband's business and became one of the first business women to run an international business in a male-dominated world in the early 19th century. In France at that time, widows were the only women who did not need the consent of her husband or father to work or study. Because of the war, the wine industry was once shaky and the company faced bankruptcy.
