The film is based on Christian Gay's 1996 novel accident, which is Renai's first direct use of the novel. The film tells the story of a woman named Margarita who was robbed of her purse when she came out of a food store. she did not expect that the thief would leave her empty bag in the parking lot. A man named George picked up the wallet and became interested in the owner of the purse. the story evolved into a cat-and-mouse game with this flow of lust. The film is still full of Renai's pursuit of images. Rennay said that the theme of the film is about "desire of desire" and is named "Mad Grass" because "the actions of the characters in the film are completely irrational, just like the weed seeds scattered in the cracks in the roads and stones."
