It was a war-torn era. A poor family in the Tongbai Mountains sold their biological daughter Xiaohua for a living, and later adopted a baby girl left behind by the relocated Red Army. They also named the baby girl Xiaohua. More than ten years later, Xiaohua (Chen Chong)'s brother Zhao Yongping (Tang Guoqiang) defected to the revolutionary team in order to avoid catching Ding. He was injured and left behind in a battle. Fortunately, he was rescued by female guerrilla captain He Cuigu (Liu Xiaoqing), who was another Xiaohua sold by her parents that year. At this time, Zhao Xiaohua happened to meet her biological mother, Dr. Zhou (played by Bai Li), when she was entering the People's Liberation Army in the Tongbai Mountains to inquire about her brother's whereabouts. The mother and daughter met but did not know each other. Later, Dr. Zhou sympathized with this poor little girl, so he accepted her as his goddaughter. In this way, relatives separated more than ten years ago were reunited again in the war. They gathered together again to realize their common ideals and wrote a heroic song.
