The play is adapted from Fenghuang Qi's novel "Chang 'an Bronze Sparrow Singing".
Shen Du (Ding Yuxi), the leader of the Grand Pavilion of Neiwei Prefecture, was decisive in handling the case but was "notorious". Yan Xing (Deng Enxi), the concubine daughter of Yan Prefecture, escaped the marriage given by the Empress Dowager. In order to protect her family, Yan Xing married Shen Du on her behalf. Strange cases occur frequently in Beijing. Shen Du and Yan Xing joined hands to crack many unsolved cases. Their feelings gradually warmed up during the process of cracking the case.
