Ethan Hawk will star, write and execute the production of the new play "The Good Lord Bird", adapted from the writer James McBride's novel of the same name, from the perspective of the little boy Henry: in 1857, he was a black slave in Kansas, and his master clashed with the famous abolitionist leader John Brown. Brown took Henry away, thinking Henry was a girl and gave him a dress to wear. And nicknamed him "Little Onion". Along the way, Henry struggled to survive and gradually integrated into Brown's extended family. Until 1859, he was involved in Brown's famous event, the Harpers Ferry attack, which was the main trigger of the North-South Civil War in the United States. With humorous and relaxed language, the novel portrays Brown, a staunch uprising leader and a growing teenager, Henry. Hawk says it's a passionate project, one of his favorite books, and he's going to play Brown. Showtime has booked eight episodes of the season, directed by Anthony Hemingway ("Shameless", "the Line of Fire", "American Crime Story: prosecution Simpson") and produced by Blumhouse TV.
