The story takes place in Australia in the early 20th century and is based on the inland development of early Australian immigrants. Father Ralph (Richard Chapland Richard Chamberlain) is on good terms with the Cleary family, a New Zealand immigrant family whose youngest daughter Maggie (Rachel Ward Rachel Ward) has been in love with him since she was a girl. As an adult, Maggie married a husband who did not understand amorous feelings and worked hard, and the two met again because of fate, but they had to be separated because of secular pressure. From then on, Ralph secretly took care of Maggie and her two children. The Cleary family has also undergone a series of changes in more than a decade. Ralph never knew how Maggie's children were related to him until the final tragedy of fate more than 20 years later. This film is adapted from Australian contemporary writer Colleen. McCullough's novel of the same name, this play has won seven Emmys.
