The story is based on a best-selling novel of the same name by European writer Jo ë l Dicker, and Lyn Greene and Richard Levine are responsible for writing multiple screenplays (including previews). Patrick Dempsey plays the title character Harry Quebert, a literary guru. He became a murder suspect overnight after the body of a young girl buried in his home was found. Ben Schnetzer plays another writer, Marcus Goldman, who goes to Harry's home to ask for help because he encounters writing difficulties and the deadline set by the publisher is approaching again. The body of Nola Kellergan, a 15-year-old girl who has been missing for many years, suddenly appeared in Harry's home. Harry became the main suspect in this old case, and Marcus's plan had to be shelved indefinitely.
