Liu Xing (Liu Ye), a graduate student majoring in physics, went to a state university in the United States for further study, during which he studied with famous professor Jacob Reese (Aidan Quinn). His diligence and outstanding talent soon stood out among his peers and won the trust and appreciation of Professor Reese. Among the many topics, Liu Xingdu was fascinated by dark matter. He devoted himself to this research, but did not expect that his theory conflicted with his mentor's classic Reese model. Liu Xing's paper on dark matter won praise, but he ignored the existence of campus politics because of his obsessive research, and his defense was not passed. Under extreme depression and indignation, he embarked on a road of no return. The film was adapted from the Lu Gang event and won the Alfred Sloan Award at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival and the Best Story Film Award at the 2007 Asian-American Film Festival.
