On Sept. 19, 1998, German Oliver Hartwen (Thomas Kretschmann Thomas Kreachmann) posted a notice on the Internet, looking for a volunteer who is willing to be eaten by him. Soon, a man named Simon (Thomas Huber Thomas Hooper) is invited to Oliver's residence and disappears from public view. When people realized the seriousness of the situation and called the police, they finally found that Simon had become Oliver's midday meal. The incident shocked the country and soon made headlines around the world. Years later, psychology graduate student Katie Armstrong (Keri Russell) studies and writes a paper on Oliver, and therefore goes to Germany, eager to reveal the secrets behind his behavior.
