Ithaca is based on the 1943 novel The Human Comedy by American writer William Saroyan Saroyan. The story revolves around Homer Macauley, a 14-year-old who lives in Ithaca, a small town in California. After his brother went to fight in Europe, he was left to take care of his mother, sister and 4-year-old brother Ulysses. Homer was a bicycle messenger in a small town. In the spring and summer of 1942, he sent countless messages of love, pain, death and hope to the residents of the town. He also grew from a boy to a man.
