Joan the Maid 2: The Prisons

Joan the Maid 2: The Prisons 7.3

New Wave veteran Levitt's ambition is divided into two parts: the war chapter and the prison chapter. This film aims at Dreyer and Bresson, hoping to achieve new classics. When the legendary historical event Joan of Arc occurred, the way of describing the events in words was not yet popular, so there were very few original records belonging to historical facts. But the story of Joan of Arc continues to appear in literary works, stage plays, operas and various movie editions, and there must be a reason behind it. The film tells the story of Joan of Arc from capture to trial to execution. Joan of Arc was captured in a small battle on May 23, 1430. When she ordered the army to retreat back to Gombiner, she was at the back of the army to make sure that everyone had returned to the city, but just then, fearing that the British troops would follow, Gombiner closed the gate before all the troops withdrew. Joan and the rest of the guards were captured by the Burgundians. In the end, the court summed up Joan's 12 criminal charges, but these charges contradicted the records at the trial. Under various forms of persecution, the illiterate Joan of Arc did not realize that the death penalty was approaching and signed one.
