Wenkar is the director of Warsaw TV, and the TV station sent him to interview because of the fierce strike at the Gdansk shipyard. When Wenkal came to the scene of the accident by car, he found that a driver had picked up the station, and the follow-up reception was very thoughtful. However, when he saw the arrogant government official Buddy, he found himself the victim of collusion between the management and the authorities. The latter attempts to confuse the public through the media. Wenkar's task is to pretend to be a sympathizer of the labor side and join the strike committee. Wenkal, who went undercover against his will, came into deep contact with strike leader Tom Chuck and discovered the unsolved death of his father, model worker Bill Cook, during the investigation. In addition, Wen Karl also met lovers who fought side by side, flag bearers who lost their father and held on to their faith, and even traitors who had a temporary intention. In the complex psychological struggle, his conscience and professionalism gradually made him pity and sympathize with the labor side, but things were much more complicated than expected. The film won the Palme d'Or for best picture at the 34th Cannes Film Festival.
