The story takes place in 1933, when Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard Bryce Dallas Howard) and her father leave dog town all the way south, hoping to find a stable and safe foothold. The party came to Alabama and stopped in front of Mandalay Manor. Just as the crowd was about to leave, Grace suddenly received help from a young black woman who told Grace that something inhumane was happening at Mandalay Manor. In the slow-growing manor, time seemed to stop, and although the slaves had long been free, there was still a strict system of slavery. Despite her father's resistance, Grace insisted on staying here to liberate the slaves. Her father left Grace with some bodyguards and a lawyer. How would Grace fight back in the face of strong and stubborn slave owners?
