The film reveals the dark side of a boys' home in Ireland in the 1930s. The hero is full of ideals of reforming society and believes that poetry can change the hearts of the people. He had just returned from the Spanish Civil War and worked as a teacher in a boys' house, that is, he clashed with the violent dean priest. These teenagers who are locked up for each minor offence are only animals in the eyes of the dean, but the whole church and the country turn a blind eye to the violence and sexual assault of priests.
